Yemen Cafe was born from one family's desire to share the flavors of home — slow-cooked, spice-scented, and never rushed. This is how it started, and how every plate is still made today.
The Family Kitchen
Before there was a restaurant, there was a family kitchen. Recipes were passed down by hand and memory — cooked with patience, real spice, and the belief that a good meal is an act of care.
Opening on San Pablo Ave
Yemen Cafe opened on San Pablo Ave in Richmond to fill a real gap — one of the only Yemeni restaurants in the East Bay. The doors opened with the same spirit as the family table: room for everyone, always one more seat.
A Space Built for Culture
The walls are lined with photographs of Yemeni mountain villages and hand-painted architectural murals. The space itself tells you where this food comes from.
Richmond's Gathering Place
Neighbors, families, and first-time visitors have all found their way here — and many keep coming back. Guests describe it with words like clean, kind, and welcoming. That's exactly what we set out to build.
Made Fresh, Every Day
The Mandi is slow-cooked, the falafel is made in-house, and the Saltah and Fahsah arrive still hot from the pot. No freezer, no shortcuts — just how we've always done it.
